The History

Operation Katrina was Mercy Vocational High School's response to the call for help after Hurricane Katrina. We made six trips to the Gulf Coast area from 2006 to 2011. We saw first hand the improvements made by the many volunteers. MVHS decided to keep the name Operation Katrina for this service-learning trip. It has a specific meaning to our school community. We also decided that this service-learning project should travel to areas who have experienced devastation due to a natural disaster.

In September 2012, Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast. This super storm devastated the coast line from southern New Jersey to New York. This is the second year Mercy takes it skills to the New Jersey area. It is also the second year that Gwynedd Mercy Academy is joining Mercy Vocational High School on this service learning trip. We welcome the Gwynedd girls on this wonderful trip.
